Friendship, Courtship and Marriage
Many Christians do not have an accurate biblical perspective of Friendship, Courtship, and Marriage. This class, therefore, attempts to define the biblical understanding of these three relationships.
1. Friendship: Christian friendship is an important part of relationships within the church. It recognizes the unity between believers in Christ through faith, and expresses that unity in loving, kind, holy, and God-pleasing relationship with one another. Therefore, we want to take time to discuss what Christian friendship is, and to answer certain questions such as: What is unique about being a Christian friend? What does it mean to have brother-sister friendships in a Christian community?
2. Courtship: Courtship is a unique transitional period in life when one moves from friendship to marriage. So in this class we will discuss how to conduct ourselves as Christians in finding a spouse and getting married. We want to consider how a couple is to delight themselves in God, while pursuing marriage.
3. Marriage: The world today is eager to define marriage from an unbiblical perspective. It is important, therefore, for Christians to understand how God defines marriage. So we will discuss what marriage is, and how it functions. We want to see what the Bible says about the marriage relationship—its uniqueness among earthly relationships, its significance in the lives of husbands and wives, and, most importantly, to see the picture marriage is of the relationship between Christ and His Church.
